Neilson Automatic Pistol

The Neilson Automatic Pistol is a product of nepotism. It was created by one Frederick R. Neilson, a member of a wealthy family with an interest in firearm mechanisms who designed and tested out a pistol design using a gas operation system which he sold to a few officers of his country's army as a sidearm for a modest profit. Two years latter, it was submitted as a prototype for adoption by the military as the official sidearm to replace the older generation of revolvers. It met the required specifications in terms of accuracy, rate of fire and magazine capacity (holding 7 rounds), but because his cousin Jason Neilson was on the procurement committee and valued family, he managed to get the Neilson Automatic Pistol adopted as the standard service pistol.

Over the next five years, some 130,000 of these pistols were produced and issued to the navy and the army's NCO corps, artillery corps, cavalry corps and  the navy's air corps. Police also bought these pistols as well. However their were problems. The first of which was it's cost, which was high due to it's fairly complex mechanism. It also was sensitive to dirt and difficult to maintain in the field due to said complexity and within six months it became clear that a replacement pistol would be nessisary. Finally they were also heavy for their size. Even so, the Neilson Automatic Pistol would remain in production for another two years due to the pressing need for new pistols, in which time another 140,000 were produced before a more conventional replacement was designed and introduce. Afterwards, these unorthodox pistols would become the standard sidearm for the nation's police forces for the next three decades. With a few compatively minor modifications, it can be upgraded to serve as a fully automatic pistol.
