Zaljhos breech loading Janissary Pistol

Unlike Cendolliath or Galthirith, the firearms industry of Hansoliath is not dominated by one powerful house with a single large operation. Rather a number of middling to high ranking houses are involved in it with various smaller scale operations which are supported by a few largely independent machine tool making enterprises. This means that standardization is limited to ammunition calibers and numerous models are being used, even if a fair number of them are making copies of others' designs. Among the more original products is the Zaljhos Breech Loading Pistol.

House Zaljhos was the second house in Hansoliath to successfully produce a working percussion cap in 23 IA and had managed to acquire a Type-3 Revolver. Their rifles have been fairly typical rifled muskets and screw breechloaders, but what they have come to be known for is a number of brake action shotguns and pistols. The Zaljhos Breech Loading Pistol was first put into production in 26IA and works by pulling the barrel forward and rotating it down. It can accept a basic paper catridge and uses a caplock mechanism for ignition. The simplicity of this mechanism made it easy and cheap to manufacture. For it's first two years it was sold well to Drow warriors before being overshadowed by Revolvers. Never the less, production continued and it found it's three niche markets, the first was sailors on a limited budget, the second being as a low cost lifeboat survival weapon and the third Hansoliath's government for Janissary use.

On top of their usual weapons Janissaries have been allowed to take trophies off fallen soldiers and keep them as long as they serve, which included a number of wheellocks. In 42 BIA some 150 captured wheel lock pistols were given to veteran Janissaries after a battle as a reward for good service which eventually became a minor custom after stock was increased after several battles and between 10 BIA and 31 IA some 1,300 pistols were bought for this purpose from various dealers. Said pistols are used as short ranged fallback weapons and in close quarters.

After some negotiations, house Zaljhos got a contract to supply these pistols and became the exclusive supplier of sidearms for the Janissary Corps. The Government of Hansoliath understood that an upgrade would be advisable, but due to concerns over a possible Janissary mutiny and concerns about costs were unwilling to commit to issuing revolvers. Some 2,500 of these pistols were bought for Janissary use as of 36 IA. By switching over to a breech loading pistol, a Janissary might get off several shots in battle with this thing. As is customary for Janissary weapons, these pistols have bone handles.
